Instant Pot Chicken and Dumplings with Savory Blast

The word "Instant" can be misleading but the Instant Pot still cuts the time in half, at least, for this comfort food favorite. It takes about 10 minutes of prep time, 10 minutes for the Instant Pot to reach pressure and 5 minutes of cooking time, followed by a quick release. So about 30 minutes for a dish that typically took me hours. And using an all-purpose seasoning like Zest Coast Savory Blast was also a time-saver instead of pulling out 5 different spices to flavor the chicken as it was browning.

NOTE: Even though there are peas in the picture of the pot at the start below, that was an experiment I was doing with a small amount of peas to see if they would end up mushy under pressure. They were fine, but I still prefer to stir frozen peas in at the end because they thaw quickly and have a nice bright color. 


Instant Pot Chicken and Dumplings with Savory Blast

1 Tablespoon olive oil
1.5 lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs (or breast) cut into cubes
1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
1 cup diced carrots
2 celery ribs diced
1 tube (12 oz) refrigerated biscuits
2 tbsp Zest Coast Savory Blast seasoning
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups chicken broth (or make your own in the IP) 
1 cup water
1 cup frozen peas (NOTE: I prefer to stir these in at the end but you can dump them in with everything)

Using a rolling pin or large can, flatten each biscuit to about 1/8-inch thickness. Use a pizza wheel or knife to cut into 1/2-inch strips. (about 5 per biscuit) and then cut the longer ones in half.

Set Instant Pot to Saute and let it get hot. Heat olive oil and then add chicken and Savory Blast seasoning and toss to coat. Add onions and salt.

Cook chicken until it starts to brown, stirring frequently. Turn off IP and press Cancel.

Add chicken broth, 1 cup of water, carrots, celery and peas (though I prefer and wait to stir the peas in after). Mix well. Stir in biscuits and make sure they are under the broth as much as possible and separated as much as possible .

Set pressure cooker to Manual for 5 minutes. Once cooking cycle is finished, turn it off and quick release the steam/pressure. Stir in frozen peas

Spoon chicken and dumplings into bowls and serve.
